http://www.flyer.co.uk/flyingadventure/russia/
In our October 2007 issue we promised a bit more information about costs and a few more pictures as an addition to Ian Seager's piece on flying to Moscow as part of a group.
Well, here it all is:
All costs quoted here include any local and national taxes
Valenciennes (LFAV)
We all left from here, and the landing fees were waived. Being France I doubt they would have been much. So the only cost was fuel
Fuel ?1.21/litre
We used Prague's main airport. It has a new GA terminal which includes a pilot shop (if you need to buy a pilot) and a snack bar.
Landing fee ?41.23
Parking fee ?12.41
Airport tax ?11.52
Handing ?14.78
Total ?79.94
Fuel ?1.46/litre
Vilnius was the next stop
Landing and handling ?60.51
Navigation services ?9.30
Total ?69.81
Fuel ?1.27/litre
Because we were intending to visit the MAKS show in Moscow the organisers negotiated a landing at Zhukovsky, home of the Russian flight test centre and the location for the MAKS show. Initially they were quoted 1000 euro per aeroplane. Instead we booked as exhibitors and paid a reduced but still significant 400 euro/
Fuel ?2.04/litre
I get the impression that the management of St Petersburg didn't really want us there. They have no Avgas and weren't prepared to get any. The organisers found a supplier who was willing to position some there for us, but the airport said NIET. Additionally, they imposed arrival slots, hence the post-midnight arrival. Everyone on the ground, however, was friendly. As an airport they know how to charge (but they don't know how to charge quickly)
Landing fee ?64.64
Parking ?3.52
Terminal Nav ?4.70
Handling ?95.58
Crew transport ?63.72
Control & management ?159.40
Total ?391.57 (yikes)
Tallinn, an oasis of peace and efficiency after Russia, was much, much cheaper
Landing fee ?14.80
Handling ?4.00
Total ?18.80
Fuel ?1.17/litre
From Tallinn we made for Malmo in Sweden
I've lost the receipt for landing and handling, but something around the ?20 rings a bell. It is possible to buy a landing card which covers you for Swedish airports for about €50
Fuel ?0.67/litre – Yup that's right, 67p a litre! Mind you what you save on fuel you can easily spend on food and drink if you eat out
Gronningen
Landing fee ?8.86
ATC fees ?10.00
'Turnover tax' * ?1.68
Fuel ?1.56/litre
