They just don't like us fly, because that means that they have to work from time to time.
Take for instance Greece. In order to fly from an airport to another, here are the steps!!
1. come up with your destination..... Then call that airport official 24hrs prior, ask them his/her permission to land and for an overnight stay. If you are lucky and there is available space....you may park your aircraft.
2. go to the airport.....Pass security check(if any) file a flight plan and general declaration form and last but not least, pay 12euros for each of your PAX. (that may slow you down from 10 to 45 mins)
3. Fly to you destination and land.
4. Give your general declaration copy to authorities, pay for landing fees, pay for marshaling and/or handling.
On top of all that you must fly to and from an airport within operating hours, even if there is an operational tower.
And the same will eventually happen in the states, since (let's hope not) FAA tries to increase cost of GA flying, in a point that no one will fly just to catch a 100 dollar burger. Thank god for you guys, that you have a fully working AOPA to work against user fees. Our equivalent organizations organize fly-ins to major islands to drink and eat.
I like to mention that in Greece we didn't had any fatal accident in GA the past 10 years (if I remember well, maybe more). So all that sound a bit stupid to me. My aircraft complies with some of the proposed requirements, but I can't accept the fact that I have to comply with the same requirements that an airliner has, just to fly privately.
