Veteran pilot dies in United States plane crash

A veteran pilot has been killed after the plane he was flying crashed into a partially-frozen river in the United States
Jim Beaton, 78, from Newtown in Powys, was flying a Cessna aircraft from a factory in Kansas to Russia.
It is thought ice built up on the wings and caused the plane to crash in Maine, just 43 minutes after take off.
Mr Beaton, who was originally from Renfrew, Scotland, was a former manager of Mid Wales Airport in Welshpool.
Friends said Mr Beaton was a "top professional pilot" who lived for flying.
He had been hired by an American company to fly the £150,000 Cessna 172 Skyhawk from a factory in Kansas to new owners in a flight school in St Petersburg, Russia.
We are all in shock and his death is a great loss to the aviation world
Don Ratliff of American King Air Services
He flew from Kansas last week - but stayed in Bangor, Maine, for at least four days waiting for better weather.
The grandfather-of-one planned to make refuelling stops at Goose Bay, Canada and Iceland on his way to Russia.
The four-seater, blue and white Cessna was flying at 114mph (183 kph) at 6,000ft (1,829m) when it vanished from radar screens on Monday morning - shortly after Mr Beaton reported an ice build-up to the Bangor Airport control tower.
He was returning to Bangor because of bad weather when the single-engine plane crashed.
Don Ratliff, of aircraft owners American King Air Services, said: "We're not sure of the exact cause but we think it was severe icing..."
